This page explains what the fokuss Chrome extension and the fokuss.ai website collect and where that data goes. fokuss is run by fokuss.ai (“we”, “us”).
the short version
- The extension keeps everything on your device. It has no account, makes no network requests and has no analytics. It sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
- During focus, it compares the address of each page you open with your blocked-sites list, on your device. Outside focus, it ignores the pages you open.
- This website has no analytics either. If you signed up for updates, we keep your email address and the link that brought you here.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
the extension
What it stores, all on this device
- your tasks (with when you added and finished each), projects and gates (dated deadlines)
- your task for today and your next move
- timer state and settings, and the quiet focus setting
- your blocked-sites list
- sites you took a 5-minute pass on: the site's name and when the pass ends, in memory until Chrome closes
- three housekeeping values: a data-format version number, an empty list and the version of the “how the blocker works” card you accepted
These are kept in Chrome's extension storage on this device. The names of sites you took a 5-minute pass on are held in memory and cleared when Chrome closes. None of it is sent anywhere. Removing the extension deletes all of it. There is no export, no sync and no account.
How blocking works
Chrome tells fokuss the address of each page a tab opens. Outside focus, fokuss ignores it. During focus, it compares the address with your blocked-sites list on this device. If the site is on your list, the tab shows a “not now” page with your next move instead. Outside a focus session, and while the timer is paused, every site opens normally. fokuss keeps no history of the pages you visit. The blocker stays off until you accept the card on the new tab that explains how it works.
What it sends
Nothing. The extension makes no network requests of any kind: no analytics, no crash reports and no AI. It has no host permissions.
What Chrome's install warnings mean
- “Replace the page you see when opening a new tab”
- That is fokuss: it becomes your new tab.
- “Read your browsing history”
- Chrome tells fokuss the address of each page a tab opens. Outside focus, fokuss ignores it. During focus, it compares the address with your blocked-sites list on this device. It keeps no history of the pages you visit and sends nothing anywhere.
- “Display notifications”
- fokuss tells you when a focus block or a break ends.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The data stays on your device, so we never receive it, and it is used only to run the features described above. Read the Limited Use policy.

The updates email
The updates form closed when fokuss reached the Chrome Web Store. If you signed up, the form sent your email address, the page that linked you here (if your browser shared it) and any campaign tags in the link (UTM parameters) to this site's /api/waitlist endpoint, which stored them in Supabase with the time you signed up. We use your email only to tell you about fokuss: one email, now that it is in the Chrome Web Store. Ask us at any time and we'll delete it.
No analytics
